Welcome To Our Bloggy Book Club

Our temporary book list so far:

  1. The Shack by William P. Young
  2. Holy the Firm by Annie Dillard
  3. Floating in My Mother's Palm by Ursula Hegi
  4. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
  5. Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Art by Madeleine L'Engle
  6. Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time by Greg Mortinson and David Oliver Relin
Of course, this list can change. It's up to you. Feel free to suggest books with a comment. Should we also suggest a reading goal per week? 50 pages per week? 150 pages per week? Any ideas?

amber - i've got a bit of connection with the first two books on your list. once i finish THE VIOLENT BEAR IT AWAY (hopefully tomorrow) and my friend's novel (hopefully this weekend), i'll be starting THE SHACK. the whole town around here is buzzing about this book so i gotta know the deal.

also, i'm on a huge annie dillard kick at the moment. so HOLY THE FIRM is right up my alley.

my question is this: can i submit ideas and reviews and participate in conversation about the first two books, but then maybe sit out a spell after that? school will be starting soon and my reading/response time will be cut into tiny little fourths and fifths by then.

also, and this is just for my own curiosity: will ashley brock be participating in any of these discussions? that girl is wicked brilliant. i would pay good money to take a lit class from her. maybe we can talk her into it.

that's all for now. thanks.

For real, YES, about that Ashley B. in a pencil skirt and flip-flops up there at the chalk board telling me about the book a day that she reads. I'll invite her to join - though I'm sure she read all these books last week.

Also, you're definitely in for whatever you want. Sometimes it takes me a week just to read my little ones a book - much less all the other grown-up stuff. No expectations, and we're very glad to have you - most especially because you love Annie.

Aw, that wasn't Seth. It was me, and now that I read it again, I'm giggly.

Cindy gave us a great list of books, and the two that stand out the most to me are Eudora Welty's The Optimists' Daughter and Isabel Allende's The Daughter of Fortune.

Scrumpulescent!

After reading your comments Amber and Hamster I must confess I'm a little hesitant to write any comments as it might quash any reputation of an intelligent reader you all have built up for me. However, I now have an account and can post slightly insightful, mostly opinionated comments about books and you can judge if it was worth inviting me to this fun blog you have started.
